About this site

Mental health issues are more common than you might think. In fact, poor mental health affects more people every year than cancer or heart disease.

Despite these high statistics, there still remains a huge stigma around the subject.

This site is brought to you by Mental Health UK. We are a group of four national mental health charities working to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It’s our mission to help you, and the nation, understand – and start talking about – some of the most common conditions.

Find out what really happens on the inside.

Everyone’s experience of mental health is different. And it’s not always easy to see the signs. Living with a condition can affect many aspects of daily life, from your physical health to your home, your work and your relationships.

This website tells the real life stories of six people who are living with a common mental health condition. You can discover more about how they feel, as well as the symptoms and treatments available. You can also see how much you really know about mental health.

You’ll also find practical advice on:

  • Seeing your GP if you're worried about your mental health
  • What to do if someone you know is affected
  • How you can help yourself
  • Who to contact for more advice
